Corporate Events: California Mart

This man was really interested in henna and insisted on waiting with us while we set up so he could be one of the first to recieve henna. He couldn't decide on a specific design but said that he wanted something 'tribal' and 'off the hook' up his arm. I had just begun a design on his arm when he noticed the 9 huge upholstered cubes we were seated on. The cubes had an image of the Hindu deity Ganesh screen printed on the top and he immediately changed his mind and said 'yeah, that's what I want, do that!'

The atrium of the CaliforniaMart building was transformed for the cocktail party into a lounge filled with couches, cocktails, and dancing. The D.J. manipulated the live Indian drum beats and vocals as two Indian women danced on a stage backed by a wall of television monitors that flickered images of last years fashion shows. For three hours these wonderful dancers arched their feet and twisted their fingers to the throbbing rhythms of drums amidst a fog of incense and the smell of curry.

Carrie applied henna to the feet of an employees daughter just before the cocktail party began. In the background the tables are filled with marigolds and red and orange candles. Insence was lit through out the room and Indian food and drinks were available all evening.

The line of people waiting for henna wrapped itself around the cubes. People lounged on couches while nibbling on Indian appetizers and cocktails as their henna dried.
