How to create Waterproof Glitter Tattoo

Polyester Glitter Powders used with Acrylic Adhesive and Stencils creates bright and colorful, sparkling 'glitter tattoos' that are fast to apply, waterproof and last 1-5 days on average!

 

1. Gather your Supplies

  • Acrylic Adhesive is designed for prosthetic and cosmetic use in the medical and make up industries. It's a water based adhesive and is latex free.
  • Polyester or Cosmetic Glitter Powders
  • 3 Part Stencils for glitter tattoos, may be used several times
  • Alcohol to clean the skin
  • Your choice of applicator techniques: Jacquard or Luer bottles, small cones, swabs or cosmetic wands or synthetic brushes.

Tips and Tricks

  • Do NOT allow to FREEZE. The adhesive will turn solid and be ruined if frozen
  • Remove tattoos from skin and adhesive from brushes and tools with alcohol or Isopropyl Myristate Adhesive Remover
  • Stencils may be used several times if you remove them carefully and without tearing them from the skin
  • Freehand patterns by applying adhesive with mini cones, put 1 teaspoon glue in a mini cone and seal well. You may not need to cut your cone at all as the glue is quite thin
  • Freehand patterns with jacquard or luer bottles using the smallest tips works great. Just remember your tips may be a single use item when using with adhesive.
  • Freehand with small sized synthetic brushes, using Isopropyl Myristate Adhesive Remover to clean the bristles.
  • Freehand patterns with makeup swabs, tips or gloss wands.
  • Work Quickly if you're working with cones and bottles as the adhesive moves fast
  • Allow the adhesive to dry till it's clear for the best adhesion
  • Apply in a thin smooth layer, thicker layers tend to roll up at the edges and wear off quickly
  • Use Opaque polyester glitter colors for the most colorful and bright patterns
  • Use holographic translucent polyester glitters for an elegant, subtle pattern

1. Clean the skin with alcohol

Choose a hair free location and an area that does not get a lot of rubbing from clothing, shoes, etc. Clean the skin with alcohol to strip off any lotions or oils.

2. Choose your stencil

These are 3 part stencils designed for waterproof glitter tattoos.

Peel off the white backing paper from the top two layers of the stencil set.

3. Place the stencil on the skin

Lay the 2 part stencil on the skin, sticky, black side down. Gently smooth the stencil on the skin making sure it's adhered well. Peel off the top clear layer, leaving the black stencil on the skin.

4. Apply the Acrylic Adhesive

Apply the Acrylic Adhesive (non latex made for cosmetic use) using the applicator bottle, a small cone, jacquard or luer bottles or using a q-tip as shown above.

5. Apply a smooth, even layer

Apply the adhesive in a smooth, even and THIN layer. A thick application of adhesive will rub off more easily as its thick edges will catch on things.

6. Wait for the adhesive to dry

After several minutes the adhesive will become clear and tacky.

7. Remove the stencil

Carefully remove the stencil being careful not to tear it. The simpler stencils can be used several times.

8. Save the stencil

Stick the stencil back onto the white backing paper to be used again.

9. Apply glitter

Always use cosmetic polyester glitter.

Apply glitter liberally to the clear and tacky adhesive

10. Apply more glitter

Use several colors of glitter for fun!

Use a glitter pouf bottle, a brush or sprinkle your glitter on. Choose the method that works best for you!

11. Brush the excess glitter into the design

12. Scooth all the excess glitter into the center of the design

13. Gently rub the glitter into the adhesive

this ensures proper adhesion and good coverage

14. Brush off the excess glitter

15. Waterproof, glitter tattoo! Lasts 1-5 days or so.

works best on hair free skin and areas that aren't rubbed by clothing a lot
